A radar detector is a device which alerts a driver to the presence of a police radar gun. The use of radar detectors in the UK were made legal in just a few years ago thanks to a court ruling. The legal loophole that allows the radar detector to be legally used in the UK is very complex but the basis is that a device that does not affect or scrabble an incoming signal is legal for use.

Rader detectors come in all shapes and sizes including new models which incorporate GPS data for navigation and camera detection. The units cost form just £60 and are essential for people who do a lot of motorway driving.

Rader detectors are not fool proof and have been know to activate in areas which offices and networks which broadcast similar signals to police radars. Many radar decoders offer special onboard circuit protection to try and eliminate false alarms but in reality it’s almost impossible due to changes in the marketplace.
